2007 Conference

Ancient Friends in Contemporary Thinking marks the 2nd annual graduate philosophy conference at Duquesne University. The conference is organized completely by Duquesne's Graduate Students in Philosophy (GSIP) and is funded by its cosponsors: Duquesne Department of Philosophy, the Simon Silverman Phenomenology Center, and the Dean of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.

The GSIP is pleased to present another exciting lineup of presenters for this year's conference. The graduate participants represent an impressive collection of programs, including: Boston College, Stony Brook University, The New School for Social Research, and Purdue University. New this year will be a short response to each presentation that is prepared by a member of the Duquesne philosophy department. We hope that this will add to the dialogue and community between all of those involved--two very important aspects and aims of this conference.

The keynote presentation will be given by Dr. John Sallis, Frederick J. Adelman Professor of Philosophy, Boston College. Dr. Sallis is a distinguished scholar of philosophy whose work spans traditions from ancient thought through contemporary continental philosophy. His extensive and prolific publications include the recent books: The Verge of Philosophy (University of Chicago Press, 2007), and Topographies (Indiana University Press, 2006).

This one day event is free and open to the public. For directions and the complete schedule please see the links on the left.
